The corona numbers continue to rise: on Thursday the nationwide incidence was 409.9.

Berlin – The nationwide seven-day incidence is increasing.

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), there were 409.9 coronavirus cases per 100,000 inhabitants in Germany on Thursday morning.

The number of unreported cases could be significantly higher.

In view of these figures, Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach (SPD) considers an autumn wave more and more likely - and also comments on an end to the pandemic.

New corona infections in Germany are increasing, especially in Bavaria

The number of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week was 379.6 the day before and 281.1 in the previous week.

However, the actual numbers are in all likelihood higher.

Because experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a high number of unrecorded cases, since only positive PCR tests count in the RKI statistics.

However, not every infected person carries out such a test, and late reports or transmission problems also contribute to a possible distortion of the numbers.

Within one day, the health authorities in Germany reported 78,863 new corona infections, compared to 56,978 cases in the previous week.

This number can vary from weekday to weekday, since many federal states do not transmit to the RKI, especially at weekends, and report their cases later in the week.

In Bavaria, the incidence on Thursday was 594.8, which corresponds to an increase of a good 80 percent compared to the previous week, in Munich the incidence was 695.8.

A connection between the particularly strong increase in Munich and the Oktoberfest can hardly be proven at the moment, but it is obvious.

Nationwide, only Saarland had a higher incidence than the Free State.

Federal Minister of Health Lauterbach considers autumn waves more and more likely

In view of the increasing corona numbers, Karl Lauterbach reminds us of the adapted vaccines, which are now also available for the Omicron variants.

"An autumn wave is becoming more and more likely," predicts the Federal Minister.

"Since BA5 is by far the dominant variant at the moment and we have a specific vaccine against this variant, now is a good opportunity for vaccination," Lauterbach said on Twitter on Wednesday.

From the minister's point of view, an end to the pandemic cannot simply be ended by decree.

"If we were to lift the isolation requirement, as requested by the four Union countries, it would be fuel in the fire.

The end of the pandemic is being called for again and again.

That will bring new vaccines.

No decrees.” A study by the virologist Sandra Ciesek and other scientists had previously shown that special BA.4/5 vaccines are superior, especially for the currently circulating BA.5 variant
