Couple: when should you really individualize your tax deduction rate?

2022-09-29T08:54:26.805Z

OUR ADVICE - Married or PACS couples are subject to a common deduction rate for the payment of income tax. This calculation is not always fair or equitable. Fortunately, solutions exist.

You have certainly noticed it on your 2022 tax notice, your withholding tax rate was updated in September.

If you are married or in a PACS, there are even three deduction rates that have been recalculated by the tax authorities: that of the household of course, but also specific rates for each spouse or PACS partner.

With the deduction at source, the tax authorities deduct their due directly from your income (salaries, retirement pensions, etc.), according to a common rate determined at household level, for the entire year.

You can keep this distribution, or opt for a so-called “individualized” rate, supposed to take into account the income differences within the couple.

Why opt for individualized rates?

When and how should the option be exercised?

What are the consequences ?

To answer these questions you must not only take into account the income of each.
