Demonstrations in Iran: Tehran summons the French charge d'affaires for "interference"

After the condemnation by Paris of the "violent repression" by the air authorities of the demonstrations triggered by the death of Mahsa Amini, Tehran summoned the French charge d'affaires.

The Iranian regime "strongly rejects and condemns the interference of the French Foreign Ministry and some French officials in Iran's internal affairs using false interpretations", according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

"The declaration of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs aims to exonerate the rioters who had no other goal than to destroy public property and the lives and property of people", adds the text.

Paris reported on Monday "its strongest condemnation of the violent repression, by the Iranian security apparatus, of the demonstrations" in Iran, following the death on September 16 of the young Iranian Mahsa Amini after her arrest by the police of the manners.

“This brutal repression has already led to the death of several dozen demonstrators in recent days,” denounced the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a press release.

He added that France was examining with its European partners “the options available in response to these new massive violations of women's rights and human rights in Iran”.

France calls on Iran to "stop this brutal repression"

Mahsa Amini had been arrested by the morality police accusing her of having violated the strict dress code of Iran which notably obliges all women to wear the Islamic veil.

“France condemns all violence, arbitrary arrests and detentions (…), as well as the flagrant violations of women's rights and freedom of expression by the blocking of information sites and social networks” as well as the arrests "of journalists in the exercise of their profession", insisted the French ministry.

It calls on “Iran to end this brutal repression, to fully respect its international human rights commitments (…) and to guarantee the freedom of peaceful assembly and association as well as the freedom of opinion and expression, especially on the Internet".
