Corporal punishment is now forbidden in the upbringing of children.

But other educational methods from the past are also punishable today.

When it comes to education, there are always trends.

According to experts, there are two main extremes of parenting these days: those who overprotect their children and those who neglect their offspring.

Some common educational methods from the past are also hardly imaginable today and should no longer be used because they are punishable.

It is therefore better for parents to delete certain sentences from their vocabulary.

Education: 7 sentences from the past, some of which are punishable today

In the past, mothers sometimes threatened their children for disobedience that they would be punished as soon as the father came home.

Today that has probably changed in many families.

What used to be perfectly normal could become a big problem for parents today.

Because some of the educational methods behind the following five sentences are now forbidden.

1. "Pull yourself together now"

In the past, if a child had fallen and cut their knee, for example, their parents would sometimes not comfort them.

On the contrary: "Pull yourself together now" was a common sentence with which parents often reacted in this situation.

Nowadays, on the other hand, it sometimes happens that parents take their children to the doctor out of fear and worry about a bruised knee.

2. "It's quick, you don't have to buckle up for that"

Up until the 1970s, some parents didn't take their child's seatbelts very seriously when driving.

Especially on short journeys, she liked to transport the youngsters on the back seat without wearing the car seat belt.

If parents were still doing this today, they would have problems at the latest after the next police check.

If you transport a child without a seat belt and/or child seat, this can cost you a fine of 60 or 70 euros.

You also get a point in Flensburg.

3. "I'll throw you in the water and you'll learn to swim on your own"

At that time, many parents could not afford swimming lessons.

Therefore, they had to teach their children to swim themselves.

However, instead of gently accustoming them to the sport and training them, they took a radical approach and threw the child into the pool or water until they could swim.

For today's helicopter or lawnmower parents, this method would certainly be unthinkable.

Putting children on a leash is probably rather unusual these days, whereas decades ago it was normal in other countries, such as Great Britain.

4. "Just wait till your dad comes home"

Mothers like to use this threat when their children do not cooperate or misbehave during the day.

Because in the past it was common for the man to go to work while the woman took care of raising the children at home.

In fact, with the prospect of fatherly punishment, they were sometimes better able to keep the children in check.

5. "The teacher threw a bunch of keys at me!" - "Then she must have had her reasons."

Not so long ago, teachers were allowed to physically punish their students.

In Germany, however, such acts and brutal upbringing methods have been punishable since the year 2000.

France eventually followed suit, although it was still allowed there until recently.

Since then, teachers in Germany and its neighboring country have had to reckon with criminal consequences if they use it.

In the US, on the other hand, hitting students was recently reintroduced as a disciplinary measure at a school in the US state of Missouri.

6. "Sunscreen?

Doesn't have to be now"

Sunscreen used to be considered overrated.

That is why parents often neglect to apply sunscreen to their children.

That too would be unimaginable for many parents today.

They are generally more careful that their children are protected from her for a dip in the sun.

7. "Would you please go get dad's cigarettes?"

In Germany, cigarettes and alcohol may only be sold to adults, i.e. people over the age of 18.

In the past, however, it was common for the father to send his offspring to get cigarettes or beer.

If they then also smoked in the apartment, they could endanger the health of their children.

However, the same applies to parents who smoke outside, for example on the balcony.
