Saving energy is the order of the day.

Türkenfeld is planning further measures beyond the announced closure of the municipal swimming pool.

Türkenfeld - Street lighting will be reduced moderately.

In the coming year, the lights are to be replaced with more energy-efficient ones.

As Mayor Emanuel Staffler (CSU) explained in the municipal council, a complete shutdown of the street lighting at night is out of the question - for reasons of liability and because such a measure would not be proportionate to the security needs of the citizenry.

However, in future the street lights will be switched on 30 minutes later and switched off 30 minutes earlier.

The community saves up to 6000 kilowatt hours of electricity for just under 4000 euros.

One hopes to save even more with the general renovation of the street lighting that was decided in the spring.

It should be completed by summer 2023.

All lamp heads and all the old wooden masts that are still in place will be replaced, provided they are not also used to supply electricity to residents.

The representative bell lights, for example along Duringstraße, will also disappear and be replaced by energy-efficient models.

Only the recently installed lights in the new town center will remain.

Consumption more than halved

The measure should more than halve energy consumption.

According to estimates, the new lamps consume only 29,500 kilowatt hours instead of 60,000 kilowatt hours per year.

It becomes even less if the reduction circuit that is then possible is used.

The lamp replacement is said to cost 275,000 euros.

Less funding, the share paid by the community is around 117,000 euros.

At an electricity price of 50 cents per kilowatt hour, these would have paid for themselves in eight years, as Staffler calculated.

Savings are also being made in the town hall itself.

In accordance with government regulations, the municipality only heats its offices to 19 degrees.

The municipal council meeting also took place in this rather cool temperature.

And instead of the previous selection of drinks, there was only water on the tables.
