Franz Pschierer's change made headlines, fueling unrest in the CSU.

A comment by Christian Deutschländer.

When politicians change parties, people like to preach about principles and values.

In truth, it is more often about personal frustration, refused posts or mandates.

This also applies to the ex-CSU minister, who is now moving to the FDP: Franz Pschierer would probably not have been nominated for next year's state elections from his own base in the Allgäu, he found out on Monday, and then on Wednesday he was suddenly a liberal.

Pschierer has long distanced himself from Söder's very curvaceous CSU party line

That's one way of looking at the case.

Another one that also belongs to the truth: Pschierer has long been alienated from Söder's – to put it politely – very curvaceous CSU party line.

You don't have to share everyone's opinions, but at least the ex-minister sometimes showed the courage to say so publicly and to endure criticism.

This sets him apart from some of his colleagues.

If the departure hurts the CSU – it doesn’t have many economic politicians anymore – it won’t show it.

But what Pschierer and the small FDP manage to do: The change makes the headlines, it stirs up unrest in the CSU.

The side swipe from party Vice Weber, the dispute over firewalls against the right, Aigner's allegations in energy policy, the mask affairs that have not yet been overcome, dealing with the billion-dollar hole on the regular route: times are rougher again for Söder.
