Bus and train passengers in Berlin and Brandenburg will have to pay more from April.

Tickets will be 5.62 percent more expensive on April 1, according to the supervisory board of the Berlin-Brandenburg transport association.

This time the price round comes three months later than usual at the turn of the year.

Those responsible want to wait and see what the nationwide successor to the 9-euro ticket will look like.

Berlin - The negotiations are still ongoing.

The Berlin Senate had advocated raising prices in the capital later than initially planned.

The supervisory board has now agreed this for both federal states.

The committee also advocated making the Berlin social ticket cheaper from January.

It is not yet clear how much the ticket for the needy will cost.

It is currently 27.50 per month.

Most recently, fares in the region had risen by 1.9 percent on January 1, 2021.

When making adjustments, the transport association orientates itself on an index that takes into account the costs for energy and personnel as well as the development of consumer prices.

Rising energy prices in particular had recently increased inflation to around ten percent.

Berlin and Brandenburg set their local transport tariffs in the joint transport association.

There is also the transport association, which includes not only the federal states but also the 14 districts and four urban districts of Brandenburg, as well as 36 transport companies.

In other transport associations, tariff increases are due at the turn of the year.

At 5.6 percent, Berlin and Brandenburg are more towards the upper end of the range, but are now increasing three months later.
