Berlin's Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey (SPD) has promised comprehensive preparations in the event of a repeat election so that there are no more breakdowns.
"I can't undo what happened there, but I can make sure - now that I have political responsibility - that it doesn't happen again and that we go into a by-election or repeat election in a well-positioned, well-organized manner," he said. said Giffey on Thursday in Cottbus.
Berlin/Cottbus - "We have appointed a new state returning officer, we have evaluated the report of the expert commission and are preparing everything that is necessary for this."
The Governing Mayor emphasized that the decision on this lies with the Constitutional Court.
On Wednesday there was an initial assessment that "shows where things are headed," said Giffey.
The Senate will do everything to accompany the proceedings at the Constitutional Court well.
"We will deal with the court's decision responsibly and professionally and respect it," Giffey said, according to the Senate Chancellery.
She also pointed out that at the time of the previous election she was "not in political responsibility" but was a candidate.
Giffey said in Cottbus that with any question of a repeat election, the focus must be on overcoming the energy crisis - and also the corona pandemic and the refugee situation.
"The focus must be on getting our population through this crisis well," said the SPD politician.
It is about an energy price cap, about relief, about economic aid, an industrial policy concept, about the question of how social institutions can be maintained and how people can be relieved.
According to the preliminary assessment of the Berlin Constitutional Court, politicians in the capital will have to prepare for a complete repetition of the September 2021 parliamentary elections.
That became clear during the oral hearing on Wednesday.
According to the court, there were a large number of serious electoral errors in the preparation and conduct of the elections, which would have had an impact on the composition of Parliament and the distribution of seats.
