"Winter hardy" or "hardy"?
It is important for garden lovers to know this about their plants.

But there are plants that can withstand frost and cold well.

But basically it is important to understand how your own plants in the garden "tick".
On the one hand, there are, for example, "hardy" plants, including:

As the name suggests, these are plants that can survive outdoors without any problem, whether it is frost or cold.
However, this designation is sometimes restricted.
These plants are then often provided with notes, then there are additions such as "hardy to 30 degrees Celsius" or "hardy in certain climate zones".
The latter means that they only survive outdoors in certain temperature ranges.
Good to know: In Germany there are winter hardiness zones 5b to 8b.

Then there are the “hardy” plants, which can only be left outside during the cold winter under certain conditions.
The designation "Winterfest" is therefore a gradation of "Winterhart".
The plants need help to get through the winter well.

Because the conditions can also vary from plant to plant.
Herbs such as rosemary, for example, are considered hardy.
That means they can stay outdoors in the bed, but if they are wrapped with fleece, jute or foil.
Other plants, on the other hand, cannot stand it when it is not only very cold and frosty, but also damp.
With the result that some can enter.
So if you know the difference and take good care of your green friends, you can enjoy a magnificent garden again in spring.
