With 140,000 tonnes of products stored each year, the new warehouse, the group's largest logistics platform in France, supplies

Every day, 4 million pots of yoghurt leave Viry-Chatillon to land on store shelves.

The Danone group has just inaugurated, in the Kennedy business park, its “largest logistics platform in France”, announces François Eyraud, the general manager of Danone France.

Dedicated to fresh and plant-based dairy products, as well as food for children, the site supplies 28 platforms in Île-de-France and around a hundred catering outlets.

"This site corresponds to our vision: to bring health through food to as many people as possible while trying to reduce our carbon impact", underlines the manager.

The 130 employees have been working in this new warehouse since January 16, 2022. In all seasons, they are very warmly equipped because the temperature is permanently at 4° in almost all of the 16,000 m2 of buildings where shelves are aligned are home to more than 700 references (Danette, Actimel, Alpro, Les 2 vaches, etc.).

“Our site extends over the equivalent of two and a half football fields, describes Cécile Fauquert, the director of the center of Viry.

We store 30% of the fresh produce sold in France here.

A large ship from which arrive and depart more than 20 trucks per day.

This does not prevent the group from displaying a clear ambition: “Make this warehouse a benchmark for energy efficiency”.

“A white coating placed on our roof reduces the heat by 10%, lists Cécile Fauquert.

We recover the energy used to cool the site, we have installed high-performance insulation.

All this allows us to reduce our energy consumption by 25%.

We are taking our part in the collective effort in the energy crisis.

An old converted wasteland

François Eyraud emphasizes another point: “We took over a wasteland, which allowed us to avoid artificialising the soil.

This is essential in the context of energy sobriety that we are experiencing.

The employees would also have gained in working comfort, with state-of-the-art equipment such as a machine that sorts the pallets or a wrapping machine, tasks previously carried out manually.

Viry-Chatillon, September 21, 2022. Every day, 4 million pots of yogurt, but also dairy and vegetable products, leave the new Danone warehouse.

This installation has not really generated job creation since it is the consolidation of two former sites: Tremblay-en-France (Seine-Saint-Denis) and Rungis (Val-de-Marne).

But the arrival of Danone nevertheless arouses the enthusiasm of local elected officials, first and foremost that of the mayor (UDI).

“When you have known the site and this area for years, the arrival of Danone was a real challenge, recalls Jean-Marie Vilain.

10 years ago, this space was unused, the land was abandoned.

The project started in 2018. We were criticized a lot for wanting to make a logistics warehouse.

But it is one of the biggest of one of the most renowned French companies.

"The Kennedy business area is booming, with companies like Alpine developing engines for F1 and a large house that manufactures nails for haute couture. The economic attractiveness of this area is a reality", concludes the mayor of Viry-Chatillon.
