During the Oktoberfest, the corona incidence in Munich continues to rise rapidly.

The development of the numbers at a glance.

Update from September 29, 7:37 a.m .:

The autumn and Wiesn wave in Bavaria is picking up speed.

In the state capital in particular, the incidence of corona has been increasing faster and faster in the second week since the beginning of the Oktoberfest, according to figures published by the Robert Koch Institute on Thursday.

Accordingly, the official incidence in Munich is now 695.8.

That means an increase of more than 172 percent within a week.

Oktoberfest: Corona incidence in Munich continues to race upwards

Update from September 28, 7.44 a.m .:

The corona incidence in Munich has made a huge leap up again.

The Robert Koch Institute reported a 7-day incidence of 547.0 for the state capital on September 28 (as of 3:07 a.m.).

The day before, this was still 393

(see first report)

, which meant an increase of almost 77 percent compared to the previous week.

First report from September 27th

Munich – The corona numbers in the city of Munich are followed with excitement every day.

In the run-up to the Oktoberfest, corona experts had expressed concerns that the folk festival would strengthen the autumn wave and lead to dramatically increasing incidences.

Oktoberfest 2022: Incidence is increasing more in Munich than anywhere else

In the first week of the Oktoberfest, the health department of the city of Munich had not yet noticed a sharp increase.

As of September 27, the city's incidence is now 424.9, up from 393.2 the day before.

At the Wiesn tapping 10 days ago, it was 204.9.

In a weekly comparison, this is an increase of almost 77 percent, according to figures from the RKI.

For comparison: the Germany-wide increase is 29.4 percent, Bavaria-wide 43.1 percent.

The increase in corona incidence is therefore significantly greater in the Bavarian state capital.

Examined Oktoberfest waste water: "The dreaded wave is not there"

In order to be able to detect a possible corona wave as early as possible, scientists regularly examine the wastewater from the Wiesn.

The corona virus has already been found in it.

So far, also because of the five-day incubation period, no Wiesn wave can be concluded.

Wiesn boss Clemens Baumgärtner (CSU) also said at the beginning of the second Wiesn week to

Bayerischer Rundfunk

: "The dreaded wave is not there."

A connection between the increase in corona incidences and the Oktoberfest can hardly be proven at the moment, but it is obvious.

The incidence also increased after public festivals in other cities, such as Straubing, Rosenheim or Oberstimm.

Often these were then increased for a good week.

In the meantime, however, the incidence figures have lost some of their meaningfulness.

Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of corona cases not recorded by the RKI - mainly because by far not all infected people have a PCR test done.

Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics.

In addition, late registrations and transmission problems can lead to the distortion of individual daily values.

Nevertheless, the people of Munich are feeling the increase in the number of cases.

A family doctor reported that each of his employees was absent after the Wiesn visit due to corona.
