An earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale struck east of the South Sandwich Islands today, but no injuries were reported.
The Xinhua news agency quoted the US Geological Survey as saying that the epicenter of the earthquake was monitored at the junction of latitude 60.8035 degrees south and longitude 20.0169 degrees west, and at a depth of 10 kilometers.
The South Sandwich Islands is an archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean of the United Kingdom.
