This is what the extension building for the Realschule could look like.

So far, however, it is only a “mass model”.

What it really looks like in the end and which roof shape will be chosen has not yet been decided.

The municipal building committee has unanimously approved a preliminary decision application submitted by the district for the extension of the Peißenberg Realschule - albeit combined with architectural suggestions.

Peißenberg – The spatial situation at the Peißenberg Realschule is anything but ideal.

There has been a need for action for a long time - the district has now taken the first steps, at least in terms of procedural law.

Although there are no concrete plans yet, the Peißenberg building committee was confronted with a preliminary building application for the construction of a three-storey extension in the north-western part of the school grounds.

Realschule Peißenberg: There is a need for more classrooms

The area in question is currently being used as a playground; according to the design, part of the area would still be available as a covered break area.

The extension is initially intended as a replacement for the pavilion building south of the secondary school.

As the press office of the district office informed the local newspaper, "from today's point of view" there is also a need for four more classrooms and one specialist room each for physics, biology and art.

In the committee, building official Birgit Thaller spoke of an "L-closure" of the existing cubature with regard to the expansion.

With regard to the height of the eaves (eleven meters), the volume (7122 cubic meters) and the extent of the structural use (floor area 633 square meters), the committee unanimously gave its municipal agreement.

The dashed area in the top right of the image documents the planned wraparound of the "L-closure".

The pavilion building south of the Realschule is to be demolished.

The second, dashed area shows the location for a possible replacement building as a "communal school center".

With regard to the urban planning context, the committee of the preliminary building inquiry basically gave its municipal agreement - albeit combined with suggestions for improvement with regard to the visual planning.

"That's a heavy block," complained Walter Wurzinger (Free Voters).

Even the flat roof drawn in the application documents would not necessarily fit into the structural environment: "After all, opposite is St. Barbara's Church," Wurzinger pointed out.

"A pitched roof would look better there - but that's just an idea."

Bernd Schewe was also not particularly enthusiastic about the look – however: “School complexes usually consist of different buildings.

It just has to be optimal in terms of use.” Ultimately, the committee agreed to pass on the information regarding the architecture to the district office.

Realschule Peißenberg: How much will it cost?

The district authority states that only a “mass model” was attached to the preliminary building application in order to show the representation of a possible cubature.

No statements can currently be made about the later shape of the roof - nor about the timetable for the expansion project.

Before further planning steps can be taken, a decision must first be made in the district committees.

The press office emphasizes that reliable cost estimates can only be given once a preliminary draft has been submitted.

In the course of initial project considerations three years ago, the district office calculated that the extension would cost at least six million euros.

Due to the general price increases in the construction sector, however, at least eight to nine million euros are assumed today.

Considerations to erect a three-story replacement building in the area of the current old building of the Josef Zerhoch elementary school are not part of the preliminary building application.

The building could be used as part of a "communal school center" by the Realschule, the Mittelschule and the Grundschule.

According to Mayor Frank Zellner (CSU), it would only be "preliminary considerations" to date.

Among other things, it had to be clarified who would act as the client in such a project.

Background: While the district is responsible for the junior high school, the municipality is responsible for material expenses for the middle and primary schools.
