The rape case in the case of the prison guards in Gilboa prison is expected to be closed since it will probably not be possible to draw up an indictment against the terrorist Mahmoud Atallah - this was reported this evening (Thursday) on News 12. It is not yet clear whether the prosecutor's office will prosecute Atallah for other sexual offenses of sexual harassment against other prison guards who complained against him
The case deals with the events that took place between 2014-2017, during which, according to the suspicion, an intelligence officer at Gilboa prison responded to the demands of security prisoner Muhammad Atallah, that female guards, including female soldiers, be assigned to shifts in his wing.
According to the suspicion, during the shifts, Atallah used to sexually harass the female guards.
The first official complaint about sexual harassment was filed with the police in November 2017. Later, the prison service admitted that the complaint was neither investigated nor dealt with, until the affair was revealed on the Walla website in June 2018.
Following additional publications on the case, which was based on the testimony of the commander of Gilboa prison about the escape of the prisoners, the police started a renewed investigation.
The affair caused an uproar in the political system as well, and last month the Knesset discussed it.
Prime Minister Yair Lapid said last month that "it cannot be that a soldier in the IDF is raped during her service by a terrorist."
The case in question is under a gag order, but it needs to be investigated and it will be investigated."
