Syria participated in the Arab Conference on Retirement and Insurance in Sharm El-Sheikh, which started yesterday, under the auspices of the Ministries of Finance and Social Solidarity, and the National Social Insurance Authority in Egypt, under the slogan “Prospects for Arab Retirement Systems for the Year 2050, Change and Opportunities.”

The Syrian delegation participating in the conference, headed by the Director General of the Insurance and Pensions Corporation, Basem Al-Jajah, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Social Insurance, and the membership of the Director General of the Social Insurance Corporation, Yahya Ahmed, will discuss trends and emerging issues for the two pension systems, and the safer and more sustainable retirement income.

In a statement to SANA, the head of the participating Syrian delegation explained that the two-day conference will discuss, during 12 dialogue sessions, a number of main topics, including: “the challenges and possible reforms for the sustainability of pensions in the Arab world, the expansion of insurance coverage, the redistribution of wealth, and the effects of Corona pandemic on social insurance systems, lessons learned, the economics of insurance systems, and the amount of spending on pensions by 2050.”

Conference participants will also discuss during the sessions, as confirmed by Al-Jajja: “The role of digital transformation and information technology platforms in social insurance, savings and investment after the Corona pandemic, and how issues of economic dominance affect investment decisions, sustainable development, and managing private pension funds, challenges and solutions.”

The conference is an opportunity to exchange experiences in confronting all the challenges facing the retirement systems in the Arab world, and how to overcome them. Representatives of the Arab countries and the Arab Parliament from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Palestine, Lebanon, Tunisia, Jordan and the UAE will participate in it, in addition to many international organizations.
