The As-Suwayda Antiquities Department has started documenting archaeological sites in the governorate and registering them on the National Heritage List.

The head of the department, Walid Abu Rayed, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the documentation work comes within the cooperation of the General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums with the Young International Chamber in As-Suwayda and the Damascus University branch.

Abu Rayed pointed out that the work team was provided with experts in the field of geology and geography to register, study and document the targeted sites geologically, geographically, environmentally and archaeologically, and to develop the necessary protection requirements for them in order to issue registration decisions on the list of national heritage, and to set the technical conditions that ensure the protection of the cultural heritage in the region. .

He pointed out that the documentation and recording work began in the old town of Al-Mashnaf, the old village of Al-Ghaydah, the Al-Diyath region and the village of Dhukir, explaining that the works cover the Bronze Age period from 3200 BC to the Nabataean, Roman and then Islamic eras.

Abu Rayed indicated that many early inscriptions and writings and many manifestations from the Bronze Ages were observed, in addition to a Roman military fortress and caves that number in the hundreds, which man improved and worked on, and a basalt beacon is the first of its kind at the beginning of the eastern endosperm, which was used to indicate convoys On the right path, there is a fortress, a group of Bronze Age watchtowers and a unique Roman temple in Mishnaf.

Abu Rayed added: The works focused on modern digital photography in 360 degrees, a technique used for the first time in archaeological documentation, in addition to recording many accurate videos of the archaeological temples scattered in the region and geological and geographical studies to monitor the natural plants and animals in the region.
