Latin America is facing a moment of enormous challenges in the midst of a convulsive international scenario.

The region is leaving the covid pandemic behind, but its consequences in the economic field have aggravated a situation that came from before.

Already in 2019, countries like Chile, Venezuela, Ecuador, Puerto Rico and Bolivia were shaken by social protests.

Latin Americans demand a better quality of life, reduce poverty and inequalities and be governed by a political class clean of corruption.

The forum

Reforms, rights and social dialogue in Chile and Latin America

, organized by EL PAÍS and the (OEI) Organization of Ibero-American States, with the collaboration of Prisa Media and Ibero Americana Radio Chile, will be held this Friday in Santiago and will provide an opportunity to rethink new consensus and reforms that move the region forward.

The Chilean president, Gabriel Boric, will participate in a conversation with the director of EL PAÍS, Pepa Bueno, to delve into these challenges for his country and the rest of Latin America.

Boric has served six months in power and comes to this appointment after the recent rejection in the constitutional referendum held on September 4, which precipitated a change in his Cabinet.

The Chilean president is part of what has been called the new axis of the Latin American left.

A group in which, in addition to him, are the Colombian Gustavo Petro, the Argentine Alberto Fernández and, with reservations, the Mexican López Obrador and the Peruvian Petro Castillo.

Lula could join them if he wins the next elections in Brazil, whose first round is held this Sunday.

The country where all regional eyes are on these days.
