Iran: Hijab protests continue, Raisi calls for confrontation with the protesters (Walla system!)

Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi expressed sorrow over the death of Mehsa Amini, who ignited the "hijab riots" in the country, but warned - "chaos is unacceptable".

"We are all saddened by this tragic incident," Raisi said in an interview with state television, as anti-government protests continued across Iran.

"The government's red line is the security of our people," the Iranian president continued, "we cannot allow people to violate the public peace with riots."

Angry protests have spread to more than 80 cities across Iran since the death on September 13 of 22-year-old Amini, who was arrested by Iran's morality police after not wearing a hijab.

She died in hospital after falling into a coma.

Raisi ordered an investigation into Amini's death and said that "the forensics will present a report on her death in the coming days."

The security forces in the country control the demonstrations using tear gas, batons and in some cases even live ammunition.

State media said 41 people, including members of the police and pro-government militia, had died during the protests.

Iranian human rights organizations reported higher numbers.

Raisi supported Iran's security forces, saying "they sacrifice their lives to secure the country."

The president of Iran warned that "those who participated and ignited the chaos and riots will be held accountable", and in the same breath stated: "No one should be afraid to express their opinions".
