The police today (Thursday) opened an investigation into the suspicion that the administrative detainee Khalil Awadeh, the Islamic Jihad activist who was on hunger strike until recently, smuggled a mobile phone into the prison clinic where he is being held until his release next week.
Awauda, Shabbat went hungry for 180 days and his health deteriorated and led to his hospitalization in this hospital until Israel agreed to release him in early October.
Since then, he has been transferred from his bed at Assaf Harofeh Hospital to the clinic at Ramla Prison.
The seizure of the phone comes a few days before Awadeh's expected release, and now it is possible that the investigation will cause a delay in the date of release.
His wife said that there was supposed to be a hearing on his release yesterday, but following the investigation, the hearing was postponed to Sunday and she fears that now a different decision will be made.
A warden who performed a routine check located a mobile phone in the possession of Awadeh, who was allegedly sent to prison.
The prison service filed a complaint with the police, who opened an investigation.
Now, in light of the further investigation into his case, his release from prison is in question and may be postponed until the investigation is completed.
Shavas responded: "Following a routine search activity of a warden at the Shavas Medical Center, the detainee's body and body were searched and a mobile phone was seized. Following the prohibited findings, a complaint was filed with the police in his case. The matter is under investigation and his detention is being extended in court."
