The structure, located near Careiro, 100 km from the regional capital Manaus, collapsed in the morning.
The deceased are two men, one aged 39 and the other unidentified, and a 66-year-old woman.
Orleilson Muniz, commander of the Amazonas fire brigade, estimates that the toll should increase.
"Some people are talking about eight, twelve, fifteen victims
," he said, according to the G1 news site.
"We identified a kombi
[van]
that had many people inside,
[but]
we haven't located the people yet
. "
State news agency Agencia Brasil reported that at least 12 vehicles were abandoned at the bottom of the Curuçá River.
According to witnesses, quoted by G1, the passage was blocked by trucks.
A few days earlier, traffic police had partially restricted access to the bridge to light vehicles due to structural problems.
