Erding's Mayor Max Gotz (CSU) described the rapid price increase of 20 percent over the past year for the new construction of the triple sports hall on Lodererplatz as a "bitter pill that has to be swallowed out of necessity".

Erding - For this purpose, a further 5.6 million euros gross must be included in the supplementary budget, which the city councilors unanimously approved on Tuesday evening in the planning and building committee.

According to current calculations, the major project will now cost 33.8 million euros instead of the calculated 28.4.

3.4 million euros in funding have been approved.

In addition, the councils approved the awarding of the roofing work to the most economical provider, Werder Bedachungen GmbH from Leutersdorf.

1.56 million euros was the cheapest offer in the tender.

Seven offers have been received.

Gotz noted that there was a price difference of only 13,000 euros from first to fifth place, which was surprising given the total.

This offer is also 55 percent higher than the cost calculation.

Planner Arnd Rudolph from the architects Fuchs & Rudolph explained the reasons for the additional costs for the new building and the construction progress.

Unforeseeable risks such as the pandemic and the Ukraine war and their consequences are the price drivers.

Rudolph cited material and delivery bottlenecks, high inflation and price increases for wood and steel of up to 50 percent.

Everyone knows about the current situation, Gotz commented on the explanations and thoughtfully turned to the city master builder Sebastian Henrich: "We have been working together here for 14 years, but we are experiencing such a cost explosion for the first time." It is currently a very difficult situation, "but we can't get around it."

Construction cannot simply be stopped.

In addition, from 2026 parents have a legal right to all-day schooling in elementary and middle school, which the city of Erding wants to do justice to by building the canteen in the hall.

But despite all the “extraordinarily unpleasant things”, as Gotz described the architect’s bad news, there were also positive things to report.

According to Rudolph, construction is on schedule.

The first part of the floor slab was laid yesterday, Wednesday, and the basement is to be closed before Christmas.

According to the planner, the shell and the supporting structure will be completed by mid-April.

The facade and roof work should be finished by the end of 2023.

"The work is all on track," assured Rudolph.

This is not least due to the fact that "we work with solid companies that we have known for a long time." In addition, most companies come from the region and are quick to the construction site.

When asked by Hans Balbach (Erding Now) what further cost increases are to be expected, Rudolph said: "We don't know that either." However, two thirds of the orders have already been awarded.

Balbach also wanted to know whether there was a plan B if one of the companies had to file for bankruptcy due to the uncertain situation.

Gotz quickly dismissed this question: "We don't have to discuss it, we work with large companies that are reliable." If there are still problems, a solution will be found.

Finally, the Lord Mayor addressed Rudolph once again: "I'm glad we're on schedule, but we have to pay massive attention to cost savings." He replied: "You can believe me, this planning uncertainty bothers us just as much as it does you."
