According to statistics for 2019, more than half of the CO2 emissions in Weilheim are due to the "Industry, trade and services" sector.

Now the city wants to encourage companies to be more environmentally friendly - with a new offer.

Weilheim

– When it comes to CO2 emissions in Weilheim, the "Industry, trade, services" sector accounts for the largest share at 53 percent (as of 2019).

In order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in this area, the city is offering a new “climate network” for companies, where participants can also receive individual advice.

At the most recent meeting of the local climate committee, Katharina Segerer assured that the companies involved in the project would “not be met with a raised index finger”.

According to the city's climate protection manager, the network on the topics of "energy efficiency" and "climate protection" has already been advertised.

And it is of interest to the target group: There are already many registrations for an information event that precedes the project (on Wednesday, October 5, from 5 p.m. in the Sparkasse hall), said Segerer.

According to the climate protection manager, various topics will be dealt with at five network meetings - the start is in November - and the participating companies have the opportunity to exchange ideas.

The focus should be on energy-saving potential as well as subsidized loans and ways of compensating for unavoidable CO2 emissions.

The companies in the network also receive individual advice: Initial energy advice is offered by the "Energiewende Oberland", greenhouse gas balance advice by the management consultancy "Zukunftswerk" from Peißenberg and advice on subsidies by the "Sparkasse Oberland".

Praise in the climate committee: “We are on the right track here”

"We're going in the right direction," said Claus Reindl (BfW) in praise of the new project.

Tillman Wahlefeld (also BfW), who is a tradesman himself, underlined the need for information to be available for smaller trade and craft businesses.

They often lack the human resources to dedicate themselves extensively to operational environmental protection.

Saika Gebauer-Merx (FDP) considers it important to invite certified energy consultants into the network in order to establish contacts between them and the companies involved.

These are the contacts "that companies really need," said the city councilor emphatically.

Industry can also take part

The "climate network" brings with it some challenges, said Manuel Neulinger (Greens).

He called for not tying up too many city resources with the project.

Because from his point of view, there is a risk of a high workload for Segerer due to the large information requirements of smaller companies.

Neulinger's party colleague Alfred Honisch asked whether industrial companies could also join the network.

Segerer said yes. However, at two percent (around 3,500 tons), industry's share of the city's CO2 emissions is significantly lower than that of the "trade, commerce, services" sector (around 75,300 tons).

According to Segerer, the network can bring a whole range of advantages for companies: In addition to increasing energy efficiency and reducing energy costs, independence from rising fuel prices through the switch to renewable energies and a positive effect on the company image are also possible.

The companies are to be recognized at a public event for their participation in the “climate network”.

In order to be honored, however, they must have attended at least four network events.

Information

about the "climate network" is available from Katharina Segerer, telephone 0881/682-4400.

Participation in the network meetings is free of charge, the individual consultations have to be paid for by the companies themselves, but according to Segerer the costs are "in the manageable range".
