Putin's ambassador to Turkey has described NATO as a "relic" from the Cold War era and accused the alliance of plans for a nuclear attack on Russia.

The Russian ambassador to Turkey, Alexei Yerkhov, has now countered these fears and stated at an event in the Turkish city of Sakarya that NATO instead had a nuclear attack on Russia in mind.

At an event at Sakarya University, Yerkhov accused the US of jettisoning mechanisms to control nuclear weapons and maintain strategic stability.

If he has his way, NATO is already planning such an attack on Russia.
"Some senior officials from leading NATO countries have started talking about the possibility of attacking Russia with weapons of mass destruction - nuclear weapons,"

At the same time, the Russian diplomat spoke of a “remnant” of the Cold War with a view to NATO.
With the end of the Cold War, the need for a defensive alliance actually disappeared, Yerkhov emphasized.
Nevertheless, NATO continues to exist and has turned into an "instrument of US foreign policy," he criticized.
"NATO has been getting closer to our borders for a long time and this is a legitimate concern in Russia," Putin's diplomat said.
Moscow has criticized violations by the alliance, such as the NATO-Russia Founding Act.
