At least 12 people were killed in Florida, in the southeast of the United States, as Hurricane Ian hits its coasts and threatens other states, including North and South Carolina.
"Hurricane Ian, which was accompanied by strong winds and heavy rain and was followed by floods, was classified as a Category 4 on a scale of five categories, killing 12 people in Florida, in an indefinite toll," the agency quoted local authorities in the US state as saying.
And the specialized Power Outage website stated that about two million homes or businesses out of the eleven million are still without electricity, and floods in Fort Myers have inundated some ships, while the search continues for 17 people from the passengers of a boat of immigrants that capsized last Wednesday near the archipelago of the Keys due to Cyclone.
Hurricane Ian threatens deadly sea floods on the coasts of South Carolina and North Carolina, as stated in the latest bulletin issued by the American Hurricane Center.
US President Joe Biden had earlier ratified a declaration of disaster in Florida to provide assistance at the federal level to areas affected by Hurricane Ian.
