The Huppenberger Church in Wackersberg is in honor of Saint Margaretha.

This year marks the 300th anniversary of your existence.

Wackersberg/Huppenberg –

On a hill between Bad Tölz and Königsdorf near the Isar, in the hamlet of Huppenberg on the Wackersberger parish, there is a small church next to two farms.

It is dedicated to Saint Margaretha.

A garland above the entrance door recently pointed to a special anniversary: it was inaugurated exactly 300 years ago.

It was September 1722 when Freising's Prince Bishop Franz Ecker von Kapfing consecrated the newly built church.

In connection with this ceremony, Holy Confirmation was given to 20 parishioners, according to old records.

According to the description, the church consisted of a three-axle nave with a retracted two-axle chancel, a sacristy with a pitched roof on the south side of the chancel and a small vestibule on the south side of the nave with a gabled roof.

The tower is octagonal in the upper area, access is through a hatch in the gallery.

Behind three sound windows is the belfry with two bronze bells.

Church is dedicated to Saint Margaretha

The double-leaf oak entrance door with fittings has been preserved to this day.

Inside, three altars, dated to the mid-18th century, attract attention: the main altar presents the visitor with a large image of Saint Margaret, one side altar is furnished with a figure of Saint Martin, the other with a figure of Saint Martin Madonna.

In addition, a pulpit – like the altars made of wood and marbled reddish – completes the interior of the prayer house, in whose pews there is room for around 90 people.

It is known that the church was restored in 1856, the costs were borne by the branch community from voluntary contributions, as can be read in the Huppenberg chronicle prepared by the Fischbacher local researcher Hias Bolzmacher, who has since died.

No ringing because the tower has tilted too much

During the Second World War, a bell had to be delivered - the plan to hide it was forbidden by the then priest Jell.

Renewed renovation measures then took place in 1967, also with a lot of personal contribution.

Because the tower had tilted significantly, there was even a ban on ringing the bell in 1982.

However, since mass was now only celebrated in the church on two Sundays a year and a weekday service was held every 14 days, it took more than twelve years before subsidies were finally available for the urgently needed general renovation, which was started in 1984.

However, the 300-year history of St. Margaret's Church is only a part of Huppenberg's church history in terms of historical data.

A chapel in "Huckinperc" is suspected as early as the 8th century.

In 1315, the Konradische register of Freising named the parish "Chumstorf" (Königsdorf) with eleven branches, including Huppenberg.

The burial law that existed at the time was later revoked.

From an appraisal in 1560 it is noted: "Khirch and khirchmaur are clumsy.

Otherwise no defect.” However, it was to be another 160 years before a new building was built and received its consecration in September 1722.

Since then, St. Margaretha has survived many generations of people in turbulent times.
