An honorary shield for Syria at the 11th Arar Poetry Festival in Irbid, Jordan

In the context of keenness to deepen cultural cooperation between Arab countries, a delegation from the Union of Arab Writers in Syria, headed by Dr. Muhammad Al-Hourani, President of the Union, participated in the 11th Arar Poetry Festival in the Jordanian city of Irbid, among delegations from six Arab countries.

In appreciation of the Syrian participation in the festival, an honorary shield was presented to the Syrian Arab Republic, which is the highest shield presented at the festival on the occasion of choosing Irbid as the capital of Arab culture for 2022.

The head of the Arab Writers Union stressed in his speech the need to strengthen the joint Arab cultural action based on the constants and commonalities among the people of the nation, represented in this by many poets such as Mustafa Wahbi al-Tal (Arar), Nizar Qabbani and Dr. Muhammad Miqdadi, whose name the course bears, based on the assertion of these Poets and others resist the restoration of usurped rights, foremost of which is the right of the Palestinian people to restore their lands and their usurped rights, as well as the bias of these writers to the oppressed and the oppressed.

Dr. Hourani drew attention to the role of the poet and writer in presenting the just issues of the nation, foremost of which is the issue of occupied Palestine and commitment to it and harnessing thought and the pen to defend it, to be an example for the national intellectual and light the way for the people of the nation to continue fighting the occupier and reject injustice, leading to liberation and the restoration of usurped rights.

The delegation of the Arab Writers Union participating in the festival included: poet Mounir Khalaf, member of the union's executive office, and poet Marwa Halawa, who participated by special invitation.

It is noteworthy that the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Culture, Hazza Al-Barari, and the head of the Writers Association in Jordan, lawyer Akram Al-Zoubi, the director of Irbid culture, Aqel Khawaldeh, and the head of the forum, lawyer Muhammad Azmi Khareef, attended the opening and honored the festival participants.
