So far, autumn has shown its cool side.

A storm is brewing over the Mediterranean and in Germany it will remain wet and gray for the long weekend.

Munich - Hurricane "Ian" is currently wreaking havoc in the southeastern United States, causing severe devastation and fatalities.

A storm is also brewing over the Mediterranean, which will hit Italy and the Balkans in particular.

Just a few days ago, heavy rain caused flooding in Italy.

Now a new storm is imminent.

In Germany, the weather is not playing along despite the upcoming long weekend.

It's going to be stormy and wet here too.

Storm danger in the Mediterranean: Heavy thunderstorms and heavy rain possible

A look at the European weather map shows severe thunderstorms in Italy, Austria, in the Balkans, but also in the Czech Republic, Poland and Ukraine.

But especially on the Mediterranean it gets uncomfortable.

“Things are sometimes uncomfortable around the Mediterranean at the moment.

Heavy thunderstorms with heavy rain, hail and squalls must be expected, especially from Italy to the Balkans.

The risk of severe weather is also increased from northern Spain to the Pyrenees and the Balearic Islands," said meteorologist Martin Pscherer from Wetter.de.

Meteorologist Alban Burster warned of storms in the Mediterranean on Monday.

After tropical storm "Hermine" caused massive rainfall in the Canary Islands, the next low pressure areas could already be seen.

The Croatian Adriatic coast and the western Balkans are particularly affected.

Burster announced up to 400 liters of rain per square meter.

Greece, Central Italy, Corsica and Sardinia also have to prepare for heavy rainfall.

Storms in the Mediterranean: Storm danger increases in autumn

Especially in autumn, the risk of storms increases in the Mediterranean regions.

When the low-pressure areas with their cold air masses meet the warm waters of the Mediterranean, severe thunderstorms often occur.

Since the Mediterranean temperatures are particularly high this year, the risk of severe storms is increasing.

Therefore, tropical storm-like storm lows could form - also called Medicanes.

In Germany, too, it will be wet and stormy in the next few days.

Because the low “Walburga” moves in from Great Britain and causes heavy rain showers as well as heavy storm and hurricane gusts.

“After that, the foothills also reach Germany and also cause nasty dirty weather here at the weekend of all days.

However, the risk of storms remains significantly lower for us," explained Pscherer.

We should be happier about October, because new weather models in Germany are assuming temperatures of almost 30 degrees.
