Cold showers and no Christmas trees?

Due to the energy crisis, local authorities are being asked to use electricity and heat sparingly.

People are also thinking in Bruck.

Fürstenfeldbruck – Some measures are essential, others are voluntary and uncomfortable.

The Environment Committee is to discuss this.

"The issue is not only affecting the city council, but the whole world," said Mayor Erich Raff. Because of the problems with the gas supply associated with the Ukraine war, there are many places concerned about a blackout.

In order to reduce urban energy consumption, the city administration must implement certain rules from the federal government.

room temperature

This includes lowering the room temperature to 19 degrees, testing and optimizing the heating systems, but also checking the street lighting – which is being switched to LEDs and dimmed anyway.

The nocturnal lighting of houses and monuments is off, the path lighting reduced to the bare essentials.

In addition, the administration has created a catalog where you could save even more energy.

The list includes, among other things, that indoor and outdoor pools are closed or have shorter opening hours, as well as temperature adjustments in daycare centers and schools, switching off mobile air purifiers, little or no heating of sports halls and leaving showers cold and forgoing Christmas lights.

This list will be updated from city council to city council, explained Raff. Further suggestions are welcome.

Talking to schools

This list contains quite uncomfortable cuts.

As reported by Mayor Raff, the responsible head of department, Michael Maurer, is in talks with the schools and clubs to find ways to save.

Alexa Zierl (ÖDP) suggested purchasing and lending or distributing electricity meters.

She also requested that the individual measures proposed by the administration be discussed in the Committee on the Environment, Transport and Civil Engineering.

She cited the cold showers in sports facilities as an example.

That is counterproductive, because "sports offers ensure social cohesion."

Christmas lights?

The city council unanimously approved the proposal.

"We should examine emotional issues to see what they actually bring," said Andreas Lohde (CSU).

He gave the example of Christmas lighting: This will be converted to LED and replace the street lighting.

"The power consumption does not change significantly." One must also seriously consider whether to switch off the mobile room air filters that were first purchased, said Philipp Heimerl (SPD), with a view to the corona pandemic that has not yet been overcome.

One should not deny associations and socially weaker people things.

That is now the task of the members of the environmental committee.
