Gita Gopinath: “The risk of a global recession is growing”

INTERVIEW - For the number two of the IMF, the fight against inflation must be the priority in an increasingly fractured world.

Where and when do you think it will happen?

Gita Gopinath.

Three factors are weighing on the outlook for the global economy.

The first is aggressive monetary tightening in a number of major countries to fight inflation, which is driving up interest rates and strengthening the dollar.

The second is the significant slowdown in China, which has repercussions in particular on neighboring countries.

Finally, the third factor is the purchasing power crisis, particularly acute in Europe where gas and electricity prices have risen considerably.
