Julie Guibert, 48, has been directing the Lyon Opera Ballet there for two years.

“When Serge Dorny, then director of the Opéra de Lyon, offered me the Ballet, I seemed to recognize my mission.

I had been led all my life by great people.

My turn had come to take this place, as a service rendered to the institutions,”

she said.

She does not seek to question authority.

“I indicate a direction.

Everything I undertake, I base it on the dancer that I still am.

I imagine a new way of being together.

Leaving the corps de ballet seen as a shapeless mass to celebrate the uniqueness of each of its members.
