Fasting allows the body to rest and the intestines to recover.

Especially good and healthy for people with chronic diseases.

Intermittent fasting is very popular with many people in Germany.

And nutritionists are also in favor of intermittent fasting.

There are many variants, the most popular being the 16 to 8 interval fasting regimen, where success can also depend on the time of day.

Many report feeling “detoxified” and “being fit and more alert” during the fast.

And indeed, the food breaks give the body the opportunity to purify.

As a result, the "good" intestinal bacteria can multiply more easily in order to push back the "bad" germs.

While intermittent fasting was only recently recognized as a popular weight-loss diet and endorsed by fitness professionals, it was not originally created for weight loss.

Shorter and longer meal breaks were normal for the human ancestors, since food was not always available to them.

The human metabolism is also designed for this change: Glucose is stored in the form of glycogen for short-term and fat in adipose tissue as reserve for long-term periods without food.

So it doesn't seem unusual that today's usual three main meals plus snacks in between lead to obesity in some people and the associated increased risk of chronic diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes.

Experts now know that intermittent fasting can significantly alleviate the symptoms of chronic gastrointestinal complaints such as flatulence, constipation and irritable bowel syndrome.

Hans-Detlev Stahl, internist and family doctor in Leipzig, hears this over and over again in his practice: "Many of my patients report that intermittent fasting, e.g.

B. the 16 to 8 method, i.e. 16 hours of fasting and eight hours of eating, significantly reduces their irritable bowel symptoms.

It has a relieving effect on the gastrointestinal tract in general and especially on the 'bloated stomach' that plagues many patients with irritable bowel syndrome.” No food is eaten at all during the 16 hours, only drinks such as water, unsweetened tea and even coffee are allowed during intermittent fasting .

Even if flatulence in everyday life is not necessarily pathological - 15 farts a day are completely normal - it can still be very uncomfortable and sometimes painful.

Intermittent fasting can literally mean relief for the gastrointestinal tract.

Because what happens in the body when fasting, why is it so healthy?

“First of all, our body comes to rest, which is good.

And then he starts cleaning himself up.

So cellular waste is removed, like a street sweeper," explains nutritionist Dr.

And adds: "Especially in the case of intestinal diseases, we see very nicely that the intestinal mucosa is broken down and new, healthy intestinal mucosa comes up again." In fact, people with chronic diseases such as irritable bowel syndrome also confirm this, they would feel better with intermittent fasting and the symptoms would decrease.

As soon as the intestinal mucosa can renew and recover, the immune system is also strengthened.

Because the intestine has an enormous influence on our immune system: "We know about 80 to 85 percent.

Right now, to protect yourself from winter and illnesses, you are very welcome to do it," pleads Dr.
