Prevention is better than cure: Under this motto, the municipality of Maisach is procuring an emergency power generator for around 50,000 euros.
Even if everyone hopes that there won't be a blackout.
Maisach – Town hall chief Hans Seidl (CSU) had the topic put on the agenda of the municipal council meeting after an expert had advised all mayors to take precautions at the official meeting the day before.
Although Seidl emphasized: "You mustn't panic." But you have to prepare for a possible blackout - i.e. a large-scale power failure - in the energy crisis.
The waterworks
Precautions have been taken at the waterworks for a long time, reports head of the building department Petra Endres when asked by the daily newspaper.
There is a permanently installed emergency power generator that can be used to pump water for a week.
And a correspondingly large tank for diesel.
(
By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular
FFB newsletter.)
Now a mobile emergency power unit should be purchased, which can be connected either to the town hall or to a gym (as emergency accommodation for citizens) in Maisach or Gernlinden.
But the market is - as was to be expected - swept empty.
The delivery time for new devices is currently 28 weeks.
Strike fast
Petra Endres therefore announced at the meeting that you could buy a used device - but you had to be very quick: the company's offer expired after seven days.
And so the municipal council unanimously decided that the town hall should go ahead - even though the municipal council had little information about the investment because the topic had arisen at such short notice.
The unit has since been bought.
Instead of the targeted 30,000, it costs around 35,000 euros gross, reports Endres.
Together with the mobile base, a tank in the building yard and the docking retrofits in the town hall/gymnasium, the head of the building authority calculates that it will probably cost 50,000 euros.
Third Mayor Alfred Hirsch (FW) had already said in the municipal council meeting that it was realistic about this sum - he is known to be a master electrician.
In any case, the council agreed that the money had to be raised.
Some speakers said they would like to use the emergency power generator for events and minor emergencies in the future - preferably not in the event of a blackout.
