The Arab Writers Union inaugurated today a rural library in the village of Shneira in the countryside of As-Suwayda Governorate, in order to enhance and support the cultural situation in the village.
The opening ceremony of the library, which was attended by cultural, civil and religious figures and figures, witnessed the presentation of many activities of the local community in the village, intellectuals and writers on the governorate square, a large collection of books, in support of the library and emphasizing the importance of books and reading.
Two cultural figures were also honored for their remarkable efforts, they are lawyer Walid Al-Shoufi from the village, and the trustee of the first rural library of the Arab Writers Union opened in the village of Al-Munithra and Wahbi Al-Dabal.
During the opening, the head of the Arab Writers Union in Syria, Dr. Muhammad Hourani, noted the cultural situation in the village, and the local community’s interest and initiative to equip the library, which comes as part of the union’s efforts to open libraries in remote countryside, and to ensure that the book reaches the farthest place.
Al-Hourani announced the launch of a prize, the first of its kind, for the best young readers for the children of the village, and the amount of 600 thousand pounds will be distributed to the winners, in addition to providing a thousand additional books to the library during the coming period.
The head of the branch of the Arab Writers Union, writer Wejdan Abu Mahmoud, pointed out that the library is the fifth in a series of rural libraries that were previously opened in the villages of Al-Munithra, Al-Buraika, Walga, and Ateel, in addition to the opening of a library in the civil prison, explaining that the library currently contains about a thousand books in various fields. It will be supplemented successively with publications and publications.
