It has become smaller: instead of around 320 as before, only around 200 exhibitors are represented at the Oberlandausstellung (Orla) in Weilheim this time.

But that did not detract from the good mood at the opening in the marquee.

Weilheim

– If you walk from the Stadthalle in the direction of Orla, the innovation immediately catches your eye.

The left part at the Hochlandhalle is now used as a parking lot, where there used to be a festival hall and outdoor area.

The town hall, which is in need of renovation, is no longer used either, and the exhibition tents have become somewhat smaller.

Exhibition manager Josef Albert Schmid from "Josef Werner Schmid GmbH" was nevertheless satisfied in view of the numerous crises.

"Because home is my best trade fair, it will definitely take place again."

Keynote speaker Hubert Aiwanger exuded less optimism than the exhibition director: The Bavarian Economics Minister painted a bleak picture of the future if the federal government does not succeed in introducing an energy price cap, as decided shortly afterwards.

"Otherwise we are threatened with an economic tsunami," said the Free Voter politician to the approximately 200 guests.

Without a cap, a double-digit percentage of companies would be on the brink of collapse.

Quotation pearls from the Bavarian Economics Minister at the opening of the Weilheimer Orla:

“Blow the bat!”

Hubert Aiwanger on objections to the expansion of alternative energies.

"It's like in a bad James Bond film"

, about the attack on the gas pipelines.

"I've been preaching to her like a sick cow for months"

about the federal government's plans for nuclear energy.

"I must be allowed to extinguish and not have to justify myself afterwards because the hose is dirty",

about the bureaucracy.

Orla 2022: Five euros for the meat loaf

"Many companies that survived two world wars and several inflations would then no longer be with us," says Aiwanger.

He had just phoned a butcher who had complained to him about his suffering.

In view of the energy prices, he should actually charge five euros for the meat loaf.

"That can't be." Once in a rage, he also criticized the federal government for the one-off payments.

Instead, the limit for income tax should be lowered.

"At the same time, they can't think of anything more stupid than abolishing the sanctions on citizen income," says Aiwanger.

It is not acceptable for those who work to get as much as those who don't work.

The Economics Minister, whose speech was applauded several times, briefly addressed the Orla: It stands for a new era and shows “what we have in common”.

"Orla - now more than ever," he finished.

The speech by Weilheim's Mayor Markus Loth was much calmer: The Orla is a traditional event for the whole family.

Focal points such as "Energy", "Building", "Health" or "Culinary Art" were supplemented with new offers such as the Escaperoom in KJR-Zeit or a reading with actor Dieter Fischer next Sunday.

Incidentally, Weilheim's twin town of Narbonne is also represented – with a cheese stand.

Orla 2022: Plea for regional added value

District master craftsman Michael Andrä was pleased that crafts, business and trade are again allowed to present themselves to the public after a dry spell.

"Our region offers a full range of products and is an anchor of stability," says Andrä, emphasizing the advantages of regional added value over globalization.

The Orla, the first after a three-year break, lasts a day longer this time because of the public holiday on Monday.

Mayor Loth expects around 30,000 visitors.
