The free area between Kastanienweg/Ulmenweg and the planned high school is to be examined as a new location for a supermarket.

The focus is only on the elderly in assisted living, but there are different interest groups.

Janine Rösler-Huras (Greens) was the only one who voted against investigating an alternative location for a supermarket.

Nothing has been going on with the promised supermarket in the Prinzenpark west of the Karlsfeld train station for years.

Now the CSU parliamentary group has applied to the municipal council to have an alternative location for the local supplier examined.

The Greens are protesting.

Karlsfeld – For years there has been a bitter dispute over the wasteland in the Prinzenpark west of the railway in Karlsfeld.

As reported several times, the municipality cannot agree with the investor Erl & Streicher regarding the development - to the great annoyance of the "old new residents".

The seniors in the assisted living facility, the only completed building on the site, feel betrayed.

They demand that the promised supermarket finally be built on the Erl site.

So far with little success.

But now something is happening.

In its first meeting after the summer break, the municipal council decided by a majority that an alternative location for a supermarket should be examined.

This is the open green strip between Kastanienweg/Ulmenweg and the planned high school.

Specifically, there are five plots of land.

But before talking to possible operators of a supermarket, the community must first talk to the affected property owners, Kolbe explained.

"They don't know anything about their luck yet."

Building consultant and CSU municipal councilor Christian Bieberle, who submitted the application, hopes that this will result in “a liberation from the current situation”.

Because: Due to the standstill in the further development of the Erl site, there are currently no signs of a quick and easy solution, according to Bieberle.

The CSU received support from the Alliance for Karlsfeld.

However, Peter Neumann emphasized that this is not a "permanent solution".

He suggested that the supermarket could be relocated to the Erl site after ten years.

"I still see Erl as responsible."

Protest at the CSU application came from the ranks of the Greens.

"That should be our absolute emergency solution there," said Heike Miebach.

The location cannot be compared with the one originally planned on the Erl site right next to the S-Bahn.

She fears that the supermarket there will be "not so" accepted.

"Under no circumstances" should a one-storey supermarket with a large parking lot be built there, says Miebach.

Otherwise, even more area in the municipal area would be sealed.

This was also criticized by Miebach's party colleague Janine Rösler-Huras, who was the only one who voted against the application at the end of the meeting.

The residents of Kastanienstraße and Ulmenstraße are concerned that their basements will be flooded in heavy rain, Rösler-Huras shared the concerns of the residents.

Other concerns of those affected: more noise and more traffic.

"The focus is always on the seniors in assisted living, but there are different interest groups," says Rösler-Huras.

She suggested starting a survey among those involved.

That's what Miebach wanted too, who emphasized: "We should ask all residents and not just those who are too loud." Miebach was alluding to the senior citizens of the "missing local suppliers" initiative, which took place in June of this year at a demonstration in front of the town hall had protested (we reported).

Some members of the initiative had come to the municipal council meeting and followed the debate of the local politicians - sometimes shaking their heads, sometimes frowning.

It is a solution for the area, said Eckart Moj.

“But not for the residents of the assisted living facility”, which is 300 meters from the new location.

Even if it does not mean a serious improvement for the seniors, it is an important signal.

"It's a step in the right direction," Moj said after the session ended.

However, "only if something decent" is built on the new site.

So a one-story supermarket.

Only then will the municipality have "a means of pressure" against investor Erl, says Moj.

"This is an opportunity.

The community really needs to use them now.”
