Poissy: the radar that flashes downhill is debated

2022-09-30T05:12:11.584Z

In the town limited to 30 km / h for a year, a radar feeds the debate because of its positioning in descent. If motorists

The association "40 million motorists" had asked last week for its removal.

On Tuesday, individuals implemented the measure since the radar located on avenue du Général-Eisenhower at the entrance to the city of Poissy (Yvelines) was degraded and temporarily put out of service.

This Thursday morning, the device had returned to its original state and functioning but it continues to fuel the debate.

Located downhill, on the departmental D190, after a section at 70 km / h of the forest of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, the radar flashes at this place vehicles that exceed ... 30 km / h.

Impossible to hold by some.

For the record, the municipality has taken the decision to lower the speed to 30 km / h throughout its territory, following several fatal accidents, including one precisely on this axis.

In June 2021, a person in charge of crossing the children, on a pedestrian crossing, was hit by a motorcycle.

"It is not new and not tricky", according to the town hall

“The radar covers an axis very frequented by motorists and pedestrians, including many children who cross the RD190 to reach the school located in the Bruyère district”, recalls the municipality today.

On this entrance to the city, which comes after a 70 km/h lane in the Saint-Germain-en-Laye forest, a 50 km/h deceleration section has precisely been set up, upstream of zone 30 so that motorists have time to adjust their speed.

“This radar is not new and it is not tricky”, assures, again, the town hall.

The 6 radars in zone 30 of the Hexagon all... in Ile-de-France

A position not really shared by the association “40 million motorists”.

Pierre Chasseray, general delegate of the association, recalls that with the fine of 135 euros accompanied by the loss of one point, “it's no longer smiling, you're flashed, it's smiling, you're ruined!

Its president Philippe Nozière assures him that “this type of radar creates a feeling of injustice.

He asks the mayor of Poissy and the newly appointed interministerial delegate to study this file and to remove this radar.

Since the introduction of 30 zones in many cities in France, there are only 6 fixed speed cameras in streets at 30 km/h, all located in Île-de-France: one in Poissy, two in Choisy-le- King (Val-de-Marne), and three in Paris.

Another 30 km/h radar had been installed in Lyon (Rhône), but it has since been dismantled.
