The Lidosteg in Seeshaupt is in a desolate condition.

The ailing boards must be replaced promptly.

Seeshaupt - The boards of the Lidosteg in Seeshaupt are dilapidated and need to be renewed.

Lars Kaiser, lessee of the Lido property and owner of the hotel "The Starnbergsee Hideaway", is actually responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the more than 60 meter long jetty.

However, the hotelier and building contractor is no longer willing to pay for all the costs – after all, the jetty is used extensively by the public and is not exclusively available to the hotel.

Dilapidated Lidosteg: How much will a repair cost?

In a letter to the municipality, Kaiser therefore asked to check to what extent the municipality could contribute to the costs of repairing the jetty.

As a cost estimate, he calculated material costs of around 4000 euros and labor costs of around 8000 euros.

This should then be used to replace all the boards, because "it would not help anyone if only some boards were now replaced," says Kaiser literally.

Kaiser's request was now discussed in the last Seeshaupt municipal council meeting.

Mayor Fritz Egold had personally inspected the lido bridge and found significant defects.

"There are urgent repairs on the jetty necessary," said the mayor.

Kaiser has already made makeshift repairs to a few spots, but this is not a permanent solution.

"The severe damage has already reached the specialist authorities," Egold continued.

Stefan Günther, head of the health department in Weilheim, had drawn the community's attention to the condition of the jetty in writing after an on-site water check.

Dilapidated Lidosteg: Only two local councilors voted against the subsidy

"The jetty is well frequented and the citizens of Seeshaupt would miss it very much," said municipal councilor Petra Eberle (Gras).

She was "torn" about the cost.

So these are high, "but that's the jetty of the Seeshaupter".

In the end, she opted for cost-sharing.

Most of her colleagues shared the same opinion.

Georg Bäck, managing official of the municipality, explained that the municipality could easily contribute to the costs in the form of a voluntary service.

After all, the public benefits from the jetty.

In the subsequent vote, only two municipal council members were against cost sharing: Benedikt Fischer (FDP) and Peter Blaut (Grass) did not agree to the decision.

The upper cost limit for participation was 6,000 euros.

However, the municipality would like to know in advance which wood will be used for the repairs.

In his letter, Kaiser had spoken of "higher quality wood" instead of the larch boards previously used.

Mayor Egold therefore expressed concern as to whether Kaiser might want to switch to tropical wood.

However, when asked by the local newspaper, he said that one could also imagine using wood from Germany - even if tropical wood is more stable and harder.

Kaiser does not yet have any further ideas,
