The Revolutionary Guards, the ideological army of the Iranian regime, said Thursday, September 29 that they would continue their attacks in Iraqi Kurdistan against the armed groups of the Iranian Kurdish opposition, described as "

terrorists

" by Tehran.

On Wednesday, at least 13 people were killed and around 50 injured, including women and children, in Iranian strikes involving missile fire and drones.

Iraqi Kurdistan hosts several Iranian Kurdish opposition groups which historically have waged an armed insurrection against Tehran, although in recent years their activities have been on the decline.

These strikes come in a tense context in Iran, where nocturnal demonstrations have taken place daily in the country since the death on September 16 of Mahsa Amini, a young woman of 22 years arrested by the morality police.

In a statement, the Guardians claimed "

to have launched a series of operations against the bases and headquarters of the terrorists in northern Iraq using all kinds of missiles, combat drones or kamikaze drones

".

These operations will continue until the terrorist groups are disarmed

”, assured the Guardians, while calling on the Iraqi government and that of autonomous Kurdistan to “

show more seriousness in their responsibilities towards Iran as a neighbor.

The Guardians accused Kurdish groups based in Iraq "

of attacking and infiltrating Iran to sow insecurity and riots and spread unrest

".

The repression of the demonstrations which have shaken Iran since September 16 has caused the death of dozens of people, mainly demonstrators but also members of the security forces.

More than a thousand people have since been arrested across the country.

These protests, the largest since 2019, have particularly affected Kurdish communities in western Iran that share close ties with Kurdish-inhabited areas of Iraq.
