The American State Department confirmed last night (Thursday) that an American citizen was killed in an Iranian attack on the Kurdish region in northern Iraq.
This was published on the American Al-Monitor website.
According to the report, the family of the citizen, Omar Mahmoudzadeh, confirmed that he was killed in an attack in the village of Koya last Wednesday.
Mahmoudzadeh, a 59-year-old American citizen born in Iran, moved from the US to Iraq in 2019. Before that, he lived in the US for many years.

In Iraq, he joined the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan, an Iranian opposition group that is defined by the authorities in Tehran as a "terrorist organization".
The group's spokesperson told the American website that this is a known member of the party and a former fighter in the Kurdish Peshmerga militia, who in the past fought against the forces of the Iranian regime.
On Wednesday, the website "Iran International" reported the death of the American citizen in a missile and drone attack by the Revolutionary Guards on positions of Kurdish forces that oppose the regime in Iraqi Kurdistan. Now the report is receiving official confirmation of this.
