The trial for the alleged bribes for the construction of the Terzo Valico, the doubling of the railway between Liguria and Milan, ends with the acquittal of most of the defendants and 7 convictions.

Prosecutors Paola Calleri and Francesco Cardona Albini had asked for the sentencing of 27 defendants.

For the prosecution many races would have been rigged.

Among the acquittals that of Pietro Salini, CEO of WeBuild, for which 3 years and five months had been requested for auction disruption.

The judges sentenced to 1 year and three months Giandomenico Monlievo, an entrepreneur son of the former State accountant Andrea, acquitted.

Giandomenico Monlievo is accused of auction disruption and corruption, while his father was accused of auction disruption for having 'sponsored' his son.

The prosecutor had challenged Salini in particular a phone call with the former president Cociv Michele Longo: the first asked to exclude his cousin Claudio, who had left the family business in 2005 to create an independent one and then died in a road accident , and the second reassured him.

Salini has always remarked that "in all the disputed conversations reference is made to tenders which cannot be modified by now".

Ettore Incalza (auction disruption), historical 'grand commis' of the maxi-works, was also acquitted, which he would have spent on Monlievo.

The former president of Cociv, the consortium created to carry out the work, Michele Longo, was also acquitted.

Other acquitted entrepreneurs include Stefano Perotti and Duccio Astaldi.

Ettore Pagani, the director general of Cociv, sentenced to one year.

Same penalty for Piersandro Tagliabue and Massimiliano Tricomi.

Fabrizio Fornasieri, Giorgio Zanuso and Diego Gandolfo were sentenced to 10 months.

The system by which the contracts were sorted by the general contractor identified by the state for the construction of the work was finished in the crosshairs of the prosecutor (53 km of which 37 underground, a value exceeding 6 billion).

Everything revolves around Cociv, a consortium originally formed by Salini-Impregilo, a water pipeline company and Civ, the general contractor, which managed a flood of public money.
