Forces of the Ukrainian army today (Saturday) entered the territory of the town of Liman, an important railway junction in the west of the Donetsk region, scoring a series of breaches of the Russian defense lines in the east of the country.

Footage posted on social media showed Ukrainian soldiers on the road between Liman and the village of Zarichna, the last Russian escape route from the enclave.
Among the named units are separatist forces of the "People's Republic of Luhansk" who defended the city for over two weeks alongside various elements of the Russian army.
According to reports on social networks affiliated with the Russian military, the situation of the force in the Russian enclave in Liman is serious.
According to some reports, the force is not facilitating the supply of ammunition, medicine and food, and bodies of the dead are piling up.
It is not clear at this point how much of the original force that defended the city is in the besieged area and whether part of the force managed to retreat or surrendered.
The liberation of the town of Liman by the Ukrainian army can be used by the Ukrainian army as a "springboard" for the liberation of the cities of Sverdontsk and Lysichensk, which fell to Russia in June.
It can also be used by Kyiv's forces to attack the Russian supply line to the Donbass front, which stretches between the towns of Savatov and Karmina, a move that will seriously damage Moscow's ability to transfer troops and ammunition to the campaign in eastern Ukraine.
The Ukrainian progress comes less than a day after Moscow celebrated the announcement of the annexation of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions to Russia, in a large rally near the Kremlin.
