Representatives of the Corsican right called on Saturday to continue the dialogue with the government on the future of the island, disputed by political and associative reactions after the refusal of a sentence adjustment for Pierre Alessandri, condemned for the assassination of the prefect Erignac.
Thursday, the Paris Court of Appeal overturned a decision rendered at first instance and rejected the request for sentence adjustment of Pierre Alessandri, 64, sentenced to life imprisonment in 2003 for the assassination of the prefect of Corsica Claude Erignac, and who has been released since 2017.

In reaction, the elected members of the assembly of Corsica expressed their
"indignation"
in a joint statement on Thursday and the next day, an association for the defense of prisoners called on the elected officials to suspend discussions with the government, which was announced to make the separatist party "Core in Fronte", a minority in the assembly.
"This decision [of justice] should in no way be an excuse to break the dialogue with the government (...) which must allow Corsica to defend its future"
, declared in a press release the party "Un soffiu novu" , a right-wing opposition group.
Its elected officials nevertheless assured to share
“the incomprehension related to the decision”
of justice and denounced
“a risk for the public order”
.
The League of Human Rights (LDH) for its part deplored in a forum the decision, calling on the State to allow
"to address in peaceful conditions the political dimension of the Corsican question"
.
Political "blackmail"
The related LR senator from Corse-du-Sud, Jean-Jacques Panunzi meanwhile affirmed that
“the blackmail consisting in saying that (…) participation in the Beauvau discussions would be called into question is nonsense”

Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, who in July initiated a cycle of meetings with Corsican elected officials on the future of the island, including institutional ones, is expected on the island next Thursday and Friday.
