The Republic of Equatorial Guinea has filed a lawsuit against France at the International Court of Justice for embezzlement of public funds, demanding the restitution of its property, including a luxury mansion.
The court quoted the court as saying in a statement today: “Equatorial Guinea has submitted requests based on the United Nations Convention against Corruption to recover some assets related to its properties confiscated by France, but the French government did not respond to this, and among these requested assets is the Avenue Foch Palace.” .
Equatorial Guinea considered that France's ignoring of its claims constituted a violation of its obligations under the Convention, requiring the Court to rule on France's breach of the UN Convention and obligating it to return to Equatorial Guinea all its property.
