The European Union Ambassador to Nicaragua, Bettina Muchet, left the country the day she was informed of the decision to expel her.

AFP quoted diplomatic sources as saying that Moshet left the country today by air on an Aeromexico flight bound for Mexico on her way to Paris, noting that the police escorted her from her home to the airport.

Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Denis Moncada summoned Mochet to the ministry's headquarters last Wednesday and told her that she was persona non grata in Managua due to the European Union's interference in Nicaragua's affairs and its lack of respect for national sovereignty.

Nicaragua is subject to intervention attempts and sanctions from the European Union and the United States under various allegations.

Earlier today, Nicaragua announced the severance of diplomatic relations with the Netherlands, and the new US ambassador, Hugo Rodriguez, was prevented from entering it due to the repeated interventions and colonial positions of Washington and Amsterdam.
