The refugee situation in the district is coming to a head again.

In addition to numerous Ukrainians and asylum seekers from the well-known crisis areas, Russian deserters are now also expected.

It is already clear that the district lacks the accommodation for this.

The gyms have to serve again.

Miesbach – Actually, the gymnasium of the Miesbach high school should be cleared again soon and thus prepared for lessons and leisure sports, but in all likelihood it will not come to that.

Because the district office has already been informed by the government of Upper Bavaria that a new wave of refugees is expected.

And the district of Miesbach is at the forefront when it comes to allocations.

As the district office explains when asked by our newspaper, the allocations are based on the current admission quota of the districts and urban districts.

The district of Miesbach is 88 percent - too little in comparison to Upper Bavaria.

That is why refugees are assigned here first.

In all likelihood, in the next few weeks.

Increasing numbers of refugees

Because with the partial mobilization in Russia, increasing arrival numbers are forecast.

"More refugees from Ukraine are expected, as well as Russian deserters," says District Office spokeswoman Sophie Stadler.

In addition, more and more asylum seekers are being registered in Germany from the previous crisis regions - above all from Afghanistan and North Africans who come via the Balkan route.

For the next few weeks, the government has announced new arrivals in the mid three-digit range.

In addition, there are many Ukrainians who were previously housed privately but can no longer stay there due to the duration of the Russian war of aggression.

These people now also need accommodation from the district's inventory.

The problem, according to Stadler: "We currently have no more options."

The problem with the quota

What is fatal is that the reception of the refugees from the Ukraine – of the total of 1,600 people affected, 1,000 to 1,100 are currently accommodated in the district – is not taken into account in the calculation of the reception rate.

"Otherwise the quota would look different."

That's why the district's gyms are now coming back into focus - as a quick fix.

In the first step, the two gyms in Miesbach from the vocational school and high school, and if these were no longer sufficient, Tegernsee would probably be another option.

Stadler: "In any case, we have to assume massive assignments."

Also asylum seekers from 2016 still there

There are no alternatives.

"All of us in the district office know how difficult this situation is for the schools and athletes in the district," says Stadler.

"But we can't access accommodation in any other way." Apartments are not available.

Especially since earlier asylum seekers are also to be cared for.

Of the approximately 700 refugees who came to the district in 2016, 457 are still in the district today because their procedures are still ongoing.

The rest are recognised, have moved or returned to their country of origin.

Containers as a solution?

What remains is the approach of working with containers, as in the past.

That is also being considered, says Stadler.

Several locations are already under review.

A solution that Max Niedermeier would prefer.

As the district's integration officer and at the same time chairman of the working group of Miesbach sports clubs, he knows the dilemma on both sides.

His assessment: “Gymnasiums are not a good solution.

It's bad accommodation, and at the same time our children lack it, especially for sports.”

That's what the integration officer says

This approach hit him twice, precisely because many children have high physical deficits.

"We have to look for other accommodation." He also campaigned for the gymnasium in Miesbach to be cleared again - but that is now obsolete.

At the same time, Niedermeier emphasizes that he doesn't want to blame anyone or make accusations.

“The situation is also very difficult for the immigration office.

The district office has to deal with what the government specifies.” In any case, land should be used for containers if municipalities make them available.
