Several student organizations at the University of California, Berkeley's Faculty of Law have adopted a regulation that prohibits pro-Israelis from speaking at events.
The regulation was written by the organization "Law Students for Justice for Palestine" and, according to them, is intended to ensure the security and well-being of the Palestinian students at the institution.
So far, at least nine student organizations have adopted the regulation, including the Muslim Law Student Association, the Middle East and North African Law Student Association, and the Asian Pacific American Law Student Association.

Erwin Khmerinsky, dean of the law faculty at the university since 2017, said that as a Jew, this regulation could prevent him from speaking.
"This means that it will be impossible to invite me to give a speech because I support the existence of the state of Israel - even though I sometimes name its policies," Khmerinsky said.
Several Jewish organizations criticized his words and that he allowed the existence of the anti-Semitic atmosphere on campus.
The Jewish Student Association at Berkeley responded to the regulation saying that they are "sad and afraid that the Jewish voices on campus will be silenced."
A statement written on behalf of five students who are members of the association states that "Students can support the Palestinians and criticize Israeli policy - but without opposing Israel's right to exist and attacking the identity of other students."
