Schongau – Saving energy is currently the order of the day.

City master builder Sebastian Dietrich provided information at the most recent city council meeting on Tuesday about the measures that the city of Schongau is taking in this regard.

The city wall and monument lighting has already been taken out of service (we reported).

According to the city master builder, the fact that the 42 old radiators were switched off saves around 12,000 euros per year.

However, he also pointed out that this was a temporary measure.

The city wall lighting will also be modernized as part of the redesign.

In any case, the lighting must remain off until the end of February, according to the current legal situation.

"Provided the legislator doesn't change anything else," interjected Sebastian Dietrich.

Markus Keller (Greens) wanted to know whether the future lighting of the city wall could also be flexibly controlled.

"Everything can then be controlled centrally," assured Dietrich.

With regard to the street lighting, the city master builder explained that only about four percent of these are not equipped with LEDs, i.e. only "a small remaining area".

In addition, the street lighting is dimmed from 9 p.m.

According to the Lechwerke, this is a "highly efficient system", explained Dietrich in the committee.

A partial switch-off of individual street lamps, as recently proposed by the committee, is difficult to implement.

In addition, dimming would then no longer be possible and the service life of the lights would be reduced.

A so-called lantern ring would also have to be attached to each lantern.

In this case, the liability would also be completely transferred to the city, which is why Dietrich advised against a shutdown.

The Federal Government’s “Ordinance to Secure the Energy Supply on Short-Term Effective Measures” applies until the end of February.

This includes, for example, lowering the room temperature in public non-residential buildings to 19 degrees.

This will be implemented.

Further measures and proposals for energy saving still have to be examined.

This also includes air conditioning systems, for example.

In connection with Corona, however, one sees this critically, according to Dietrich.

However, there is potential for savings, especially in sports halls.

The suggestion here is to lower the temperature to 17 degrees.

In connection with physical activity, this is considered acceptable.

How to proceed with the ice rink still has to be discussed.

In addition, the city has concluded a contract with experts for energy coaching.

This should take place with all caretakers in October.

In the neighboring municipality of Peiting, so-called balcony power plants will be funded in the future (we reported).

You have to think carefully about that for Schongau, according to Dietrich.

He thinks it is much more important to think about an exemption decision for such facilities "so that the same conditions prevail throughout the city".
