October 2, 2022 (Reuters News Agency)
At least 129 people were killed and another 180 were injured tonight (Sunday) in a riot at a soccer stadium in Indonesia, which appears to be one of the worst stadium disasters in the world.
At the end of the game, the fans of the losing team broke into the field and the police responded with tear gas.
These caused many people to be trampled and suffocated - this is what the East Java police chief in the country, Niko Afinta, said.
Indonesia's Sports Minister Zainedin Amali said that the authorities will re-evaluate the safety issue at soccer matches and will even consider not allowing crowds to enter the stadiums.
Also, the Indonesian Football Association has started investigating the case.

Indonesia is set to host the Under-20 World Cup in May and June next year.
In addition, it is one of three countries vying for next year's Asian Cup bid, the continent's equivalent of the Euros, after China pulled out as host.
Among global stadium disasters, 96 Liverpool supporters were crushed to death in Britain in April 1989 when a packed, fenced enclosure collapsed at Sheffield's Hillsborough Stadium.
