In her first solo exhibition entitled (The Small Painting), the plastic artist Mervat El-Khoury managed to employ the feelings, feelings and passion for nature that resonated in her heart, so most of her paintings were small in size from the impressionist school.
In her paintings, Al-Khoury embodied the Syrian nature and the Syrian coast, in addition to trees and roses, and she was able to express her different states of joy, sadness, optimism and hope.
The exhibition, which was hosted by Louay Kayali Gallery in the Arab Gallery in Damascus, included 40 works of small sizes, mostly in oil colours.
In a statement to SANA reporter, Al-Khoury explained that she belongs to the Impressionist school, as she was followed by the pioneers of international impressionism and was influenced by the plastic artist Michel Karshah and Naseer Shura, who were among the first plastic artists in Syria.
The head of the Syrian Plastic Artists Union, Irfan Abu Al-Shamat, explained that the artist Khoury succeeded in employing her capabilities and techniques, so she chose pictures such as the Syrian coast and the Damascene nature, expressing them through small paintings with a transparent and out of the ordinary technique.
Maha Mahfouz, head of the Damascus branch of the Union of Fine Artists, said that the artist benefited greatly from the pioneers of plastic artists, while the plastic artist George Francis expressed his admiration for the style of the artist Khoury, who was able to clearly develop her style.
As for the plastic artist, Sawsan Al-Bawab, she saw that the artist Al-Khoury succeeded in creating her own mark and imposing her feminine and delicate feelings through her impressionist works.
