continues to enjoy the fullest confidence of the president
,” the spokesman said, adding that during his hearing before the Senate he had “
accurately reflected the bipartisan political positions
” of the United States.
The Nicaraguan government announced on Friday that it "
will not be admitted
" because of its "
interfering
" attitude.

Hugo Rodriguez who, during his hearing in the US Senate, had described the Ortega government as a "
dictatorship
", had also recommended getting Nicaragua out of the Cafta (free trade agreement between Central America, the Dominican Republic and the United States). United).
Faced with this rejection, Washington chose to keep the current ambassador Kevin Sullivan in his post.
The United States remains committed to "
promoting the return of a democratic government to Nicaragua
", affirmed the spokesman.
Washington has implemented sanctions against Ortega's officials and relatives for human rights violations and corruption.
In addition to the rejection of the new American ambassador, the Nicaraguan government reinforced its international isolation this week by expelling the European Union (EU) ambassador and breaking diplomatic relations with the Netherlands.
